I hope we don't encounter any turbulence and crash the plane

Thanks, Ron Peno

Watching a RockWiz repeat on SBS last night, I hear Ron Peno of Died Pretty (oh, look it up on WIkipedia, for heaven;'s sake!) talk about his first album by The Gun, which featured Race with the Devil. Well, I remember it by a groupb called Girlschool (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=A55C5D404A38673E). You have to love a band with a lead singer called Enid. So, I've wasted a few hours on YouTube collecing a bunch of stuff from them and MotorHead (thanks to Brendan "Clot" Clough - love ya mate!) and then a bunch of Glam Rock stuff as well (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=B8C4B1F10108FCA4)

Day off activities

Up at 6am for the Great Wall, about 90mins out of Beijing.

Incredible climb of about 800 metres with some pretty steep pitches. Even with the smoky atmosphere the view was spectacular. We were first throught the gates with Yang Feng leading the way. He took off up the hill - must have been the charcoal-grilled sheeps testes at dinner last night (I declined, having worked out what they were, this time). Luckily we had NZ Willy and Irish Graeme from Microsoft to pace against, but we beat them hands down, wet through with sweat. The trip down gave the quads a better workout than the hammys got on the way up.

Just finished the Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square and a fantastic lunch, without any doubt the meal of the trip!

A bit of shopping later, now I'm back safe in the hotel with the footy audio streaming over the internet.

I have a great view from the room, including the unbelievable new CCTV building, which has an incredible overhang - the whole thing looks like it will fall over into the street.

That's probably the most striking thing about Beijing - the number of really unorthodox buildings -  from the Olympic stadium and swimming centre, the National Theatre, CCTV - wow!

I'll post the photos as soon as I can get them off the camera (oops no cable)

Amusements

I've gone beserk and found a bunch of 80's videos from bands I used to love - whaddya think?

March 03

Wow - what a trip

I didn't have 5 minutes to scratch myself while I was away, so here are the highlights.

Bangalore - great time delivering the Isilon Configuration and Administration course with remote hardware - great suscess. The clevel students helped a lot though Smile.

Mumbai - wow, I've seen it all now. What an amazing, terrifying, joyful, place! When am I going back?

Singapore - a chance to rest and recuperate, except for the 3am drinking session accompanying Mark Nicholls bithday. Great dinner crew.

KL - I'm loving the travel there. Great customers, the work went smoothly, happy times!

Now, back to Australia for work, school, Wildwood cycling weekend, new carpets, and then back to Asia, I think.

Travel plans

Happy NY!

I've uploaded the pics from our trip to Coolum, which ended up being quite wet, due to the cyclone. That made it a bit challenging, but we all needed the break - so we had fun regardless.

Tommy got lots of pool time, despite the rain. The beach was washed away Sad but we got some bike riding in, golf practice, a trip to Australia Zoo and Noosa, Eumundi Markets and lots of games.

After that, I got to Seattle for Isilon's Sales Kickoff for 2008 (great event!) and now I'm back in Oz again.

2008 should be very busy -Tommy starts Grade 1 in 2 weeks, Jane's continuing her DFP, and I am into subject 7 of 13 of my Masters of Management.

Cheers!
Paul

Wow - where did the last 3 months go?

Actually, it's been hectic and a little hairy - but worth every second!

Not many photos were taken - check the photo album section for a few recent ones.
